Scribe Estate Sylvaner "Ode to Emil XV" 2024

$46.00

We love this fresh, clean, and structured white, and to find a well-crafted classic Alsace varietal coming out of Sonoma is a very pleasant surprise!

In the words of the winemakers: “In 1858 when Emil Dresel found his way to Sonoma, he brought along vine cuttings of Riesling and Sylvaner from his family's vineyard in Geisenheim – the first of their kind in California. He tended these grapes on the slopes we now farm at Scribe, making wine until Prohibition in 1919. In homage, we planted a single acre of Sylvaner on the farm, hoping it would do as well for us as it did for him. We've since learned that Sylvaner grown in these volcanic soils and graced with the daily salty bay breeze, yields fresh, textured, and delicious wine. What Dresel saw back then in this hillside's terroir holds up today – we think Emil would be pleased.
