Richard Desouche Le P'tit Domaine "Les Bois Blancs" Saumur Champigny 2019
Les Bois Blancs is an exceptional .4 hectare plot of old-vine cabernet franc lovingly farmed by Richard Desouche, who you can think of as your favorite vigneron’s favorite vigneron in Saumur Champigny. (He managed the vineyards at Chateau de Chaintres for 20 years and currently manages those of the famed Clos Rougeard!) His 2019 vintage is drinking exceptionally well in 2026, with years more enjoyment to come. A smooth core of supple black fruit is framed by soft earthy tannins and ornamented by cool and minty herbal notes. With more air, details of cacao, black cherry, and eucalyptus emerge. Les Bois Blancs entirely evades the typical excesses of the varietal: no peppery tannin or acid overload here! We love a mature red at Fog Wine, all the better when we can offer it at a pounce-worthy accessible price. This is a tough one to find in the US and other vintages of Bois Blancs are going for more than quadruple what we’re asking for this ready-to-drink 2019.
Certified organic. 100% cabernet franc. 55+ year-old vines. Rested in neutral old French oak. Dampierre Sur Loire, Saumur-Champigny, Loire Valley, France.
