This complex and persuasive red is crafted from Ull de Llebre, the local Catalonian name for tempranillo. But don’t expect the typical over-extracted tempranillo, with its boozy profile and burly tannins. Instead, the UL offers a delicate open-weave of earthy aromas, berry fruit, and herb and spice elements in a lighter-bodied profile. We found this one evolved nicely with open time, increasingly growing on us as it revealed layers of intrigue. Pair it with tinned scallops, anything with piquillo peppers, or a simple sandwich of jamon and manchego.
Partida Creus is the passion project of Italian couple Massimo Marchiori and Antonella Gerosa, who left city-life as successful architects in Barcelona to lead a slower life reviving rarely seen grape varietals in and around Penedes.
