Paraiso Natural is truly a rare gem, even among our rare small-production treasures here at Fog Wine Shop. Winemaker Miguel Viseu, beloved for his more widely available Aphros and Galactic Wines projects, here farms just one hectare of loureiro grapes, in the tiny village of Paraiso, in Minho, Portugal. Less than 200 bottles are imported to the US per year! From this modest parcel of land, he produces a gorgeous white with minimal intervention; absolutely no additives, fining, or filtering.
This wine offers so much more depth and interest than the typical vinho verde produced around Minho. Balancing an open-weave approachability with opulent richness, Paraiso Natural grabs and holds your attention with pineapple, candied ginger, tangerine, and a tiny trickle of caramel. The lengthy finish captivates with layers of complex citrus, saline, and herbaceous details. It is a powerful testament to the fact that minimal intervention wines can be just as hedonistic and sumptuous as any other!
