Mitja Sirk "Bianco Europeo" 2024
Sirk’s 2024 Bianco Europeo delivers beguiling aromas of wildflower and honeysuckle with pistachio, almond, and fennel. The seductive nose seamlessly transitions to a silky fruit-driven palate. Harmonious peach, lemon, and pear meld together around a balanced backbone of acidity, culminating in a salty, flinty finish. Made with 100% tocai friulano, the wine is an excellent introduction to the varietal, impressive, but not as showy or loud as some examples. There’s plenty of versatility at the table as well, and the wine will uplift a variety of dishes, from roasted chicken to cod or scallops in a buttery sauce. We’re especially looking forward to pairing it with a white-fleshed fish generously strewn with fresh savory herbs…
Mitja Sirk has enjoyed a front-row seat to the best wines of Northern Italy and beyond, serving from a very young age as sommelier at his parents’ Michelin-starred restaurant La Subida. He was gifted an amphora and some grapes by Friuli legend Josko Gravner and high-level tutelage only continued from there; with Mitja apprenticing at Isole e Olena in 2011, Dujac in 2013, Conterno in 2014, and Roulot in 2018.
Practicing organic. 100% tocai friulano. 25-35 year-old vines. Grapes grown on Sirk estate and sourced from like-minded growers on both sides of the Italy/Slovenia border, hence the name Bianco Europeo. Cormòns, Friuli, Italy.
