Mee Godard Morgon Corcelette 2023
Mee Godard is a relatively new voice in Beaujolais. As opposed to the many multi-generational estates there, she started with her first vintage in 2013. Yet she’s quickly earned her reputation, working with rigor and exactitude to produce gamay of great depth and structure. Aaaaand it doesn’t hurt to be working with 70 year-old vines in the famed Corcelette vineyard! Blueberry, blackberry, and plum are first to announce themselves, along with some wet-stone minerality. Dried herbs, licorice, and baking spice are more shy, but start to emerge with some air. Even for Morgon, this is a sturdy and structured gamay, with the density and tannins to suggest cellaring a couple years, or decanting a good hour or two when serving it young. This bottle is in it for the long haul!
100% gamay. 70+ year-old vines. Corcelette vineyard, Morgon, Beaujolais, France.
