Kiko Calvo "Bigardo" Toro Castilla Leon Tinto 2020

$25.00

Kiko Calvo left his family’s ancestral vineyards in Toro to work the harvest in France, California, Australia, Chile, and Argentina before returning home to craft wines informed by that diversity of experience. His Bigardo, or “rebel”, bottling refuses any form of chemical or mechanical intervention in the vineyard or the cellar and also resists the extremes of tannin, oak, and alcohol common in Toro. Nonetheless, the wine is a classic, full-bodied, and intense red. Perhaps what really sets him apart is his strict selection at harvest, using only the highest quality toro (aka tempranillo) from his family’s vineyards, before the rest is sold to lesser wineries. The result offers keen plum and black cherry with accents of espresso, nutmeg, and leather. This is a big red, perfect for the table, that can stand up well to all manner of meaty dishes.

Organic. 100% toro (aka tempranillo). 10 months in old French oak. Valdefinjas and Los Llanos vineyards, Toro, Castilla y León, Spain.
