Gut Oggau "Theodora" 2024

$47.00

Gut Oggau was started in 2007 when Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe painstakingly restored a 17th century winery that had been abandoned 20 years. The 20 year gap in production was a blessing, as it allowed all traces of pesticide and chemical intervention (from the previous owners) to be naturally washed away over the two decades. They have farmed biodynamically ever since then, are fully certified by Demeter, and refrain from any use of added sulfites. Each wine’s vibe is matched to a family member’s personality, whose illustrated portrait graces the bottle’s label.

The 2024 Theodora is a amber-golden hued beauty, balancing easy charm with proportionate texture and structure. Wildflower aromas, melon notes, and a saline minerality harmonize with subtle white tea tannin, and a good dash of the clean pheromonal funk we love in each of Gut Oggau’s offerings. Its not a typical white, nor a full-fledged orange wine, but rather a deeply satisfying third thing, capable of versatile pairings, but also worthy of contemplation on its own.

Demeter-certified biodynamic. Blend of gruner veltliner and welschriesling. 35 year-old vines strictly dedicated to rosé wine. Unfiltered and unfined. Zero added sulfites. Oggau, Burgenland, Austria
