Gut Oggau "Emmeram" Gewürztraminer 2024

$65.00

Gut Oggau was started in 2007 when Eduard and Stephanie Tscheppe painstakingly restored a 17th century winery that had been abandoned 20 years. The 20 year gap in production was a blessing, as it allowed all traces of pesticide and chemical intervention (from the previous owners) to be naturally washed away over the two decades. They have farmed biodynamically ever since then, are fully certified by Demeter, and refrain from any use of added sulfites. Each wine’s vibe is matched to a family member’s personality, whose illustrated portrait graces the bottle’s label.

The 2024 Emmeram is a classic geuwrztraminer of exceptionally high quality. Vivid and clean floral aromas leap from the glass, notably magnolia and white rose. There’s a good hit of the telltale lychee aroma, joined by subtle yet distinct fresh chanterelle, plus a whiff of volatile minerality. On the palate, it is full-bodied, supple-textured, and bone-dry, with a lively fruit profile showing honeydew melon and Meyer lemon. The finish adds a bit of Himalayan pink salt, keeping things brisk and snappy despite the effusive flower and fruit notes. This is a truly exceptional gewürztraminer and a powerful testament to the polish and sophistication of minimal-intervention winemaking. Its lovely to see a wine this classic and true-to-style crafted without using a single drop of pesticide or sulfite.

Demeter-certified biodynamic. 100% gewürztraminer. 40 year-old vines. Unfiltered and unfined. Zero added sulfites. Oggau, Burgenland, Austria.
