Envinate "Benje" Blanco 2024

$32.00

This complex white marries clear expression of volcanic terroir with high-craft cellar work. The listan blanco grapes are hand-harvested from untrained vines on the volcanic island of Tenerife. Then a portion of the juice is macerated on the skins while another portion is fermented under flor, like a sherry, all before being rested in a mix of old French oak and concrete tank. The nose offers a beguiling mix of broad waxy lanolin notes with finer citrus zest and the tell-tale sign of volcanic terroir expression: flint and smoke. The palate is chewy and structured, yet quite quaffable, with an array of lime, grapefruit, nectarine, and peach notes. There’s a striking volcanic minerality, but also a lovely honeyed viscosity gently holding it all together right through the tingling and mouth-watering finish.

On a personal note, this bottle feels exceptionally well-suited to a Maine summer. For one, its just screaming for shellfish pairings, but in a poetic sense, it has a certain rugged beauty, much like our salt-aired beaches of jagged rocks and cold briney waters!!

Practicing organic. 100% listan blanco. Unfined and unfiltered. Santiago del Teide, Ycoden-Daute-Isora, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain.
