El Maestro Sierra 15-year Oloroso Sherry 375mL

$30.00

El Maestro Sierra was founded by proletariat cooper José Antonio Sierra in 1830, when virtually no one other than the nobility were in the sherry wine business. The egalitarian tradition continues to this day under the ownership of Dr. Carmen Borrego Pla, marking the third generation under which they’ve operated under the ownership and leadership of women!

The 15 year Oloroso is a serious and weighty sherry, rather full-bodied, less sweet than an amontillado, yet far more deep and unctuous than a fino. Oxidative hazelnut and almond notes harmonize with a dry vinuous character, a melange of spice notes, and just enough acidity to keep things lively. This is a beautifully contemplative wine, worthy of sippiing on its own, but also has the versatility to pair with a jamon, some marcona almonds, or even smoked fish. To be frank, we like it best as a post-work attitude-adjuster, all the better with a book and next to a wood stove!

100% palomino. 15 years aging in American oak casks. Jerez de la Frontera, Jerez, Andalucia, Spain.
