Can Majoral "Butibalausi" Negre 2022

$24.00

Can Majoral is a tiny family operation in Algaida, a sub-region of the island of Mallorca. They grow a mix of culturally Catalan varietals along with some “foreign” varietals, all of them farmed organically. The Butibalausi is a mix of both influences, featuring callet and mantonegro along with tempranillo, syrah, and cabernet sauvignon. The resulting blend shows an open and welcoming bouquet of cherry, raspberry, and violet and a palate that adds warming spice and just the right amount of tannin to the fruit profile. A little open time brings in dry herb aromas and light smoke element This one is an easy crowd-pleaser that’ll go well with anything from tapas to pizza.

Certified organic. 40% callet, 25% tempranillo, 25% cabernet sauvignon, 20% syrah, 5% mantonegro. 25 year-old vines. 1 year in French oak barrels (mix of neutral and new oak). Algaida, Mallorca, Pla i Llevant, Spain.

English translation of the poem in Catalan on the label:

“The vessels were heavy when they arrived to us, but when they were filled with pure wine, they became light and about to fly away with their contents, just as bodies became light with their spirits.” Idris Al-Yamàn, Andalusian poet, 1048-1077 AD.
