Admittedly we weren’t that into Beaujolais before encountering the wines of Pierre Cotton and Marine Bonnet. But upon a whiff of the complex bouquet and that stunning first sip, we did a quick 180! This is neither the punchy must-be-drunk-young mass-market nouveaus, nor the acidic need-to-be-chilled lightweights dominating the so-called natural wine market. We don’t follow critical scores closely, but it happens that this bottle is one of the highest critically rated bottles to be produced in Brouilly. What matters to us is the fruit and spice intensities expressed in a refined balance with earthy minerality, the balance of finesse and power, and the satisfying journey from aromatic enticement to lingering finish.
