Admittedly we weren’t that into Beaujolais before encountering the wines of Pierre Cotton and Marine Bonnet. But upon a whiff of the complex bouquet and that stunning first sip, we did a quick 180! This is neither the punchy must-be-drunk-young mass-market nouveaus, nor the acidic need-to-be-chilled lightweights dominating the so-called natural wine market. Instead, this is a powerful and earthy full-bodied beast of a gamay, layered with coffee, pepper, cinnamon, and nutmeg notes. This is a high-stimulation wine to pair with rich and assertively seasoned dishes… lamb korma or chicken tagine come to mind but roast turkey with mushroom gravy would also work very well!
