Anne Pichon "Sauvage" Syrah-Grenache 2022
Anne Pichon crafts consistently excellent organic wines in Ventoux, an under-the-radar corner of the Southern Rhone Valley. Her syrah-grenache blend opens with an alluring mix of savory garrigue notes eucalyptus, rosemary, white sage, and lavender, with a gentle underlining of earthy musk. The palate is dry and rather full-bodied, showing plum and black cherry framed by lightly smoky black-tea tannins and blackberry acidity. If you like your reds big-bodied and bold with assertive tannins that can match the heartiest of fare, this one’s for you. Its impressive now but clearly has the structure to develop nicely for another 5 or 10 years, easy, and at this price point, its easy to set aside a few for the cellar.
Ecocert-certified organic. 80% syrah, 20% grenache. 45+ year-old vines. Harvested at night. Aged in concrete tanks for 6 months. Ventoux, Vaucluse, Rhone Valley, France.
