Anne & Francois Ganevat "La Colline des Dames"

$90.00

Even among our selection of small-production hard-to-find winemakers here at Fog Wine Shop, the Ganevats truly stand out both in accomplishment and rarity. Jura-based siblings Anne and Francois Ganevat trace their family’s history in winemaking back to the 1650s. They are known for rigorous vineyard work, organically and biodynamically farming a wide selection of varietals on a mere 8.5 hectares around the tiny hamlet of Rotalier. In the cellar they are quite painstaking, using a variety of élévage techniques to develop a wide variety of bottlings, each requiring a unique approach. Francois Ganevat worked seven years under his father, then worked as cellarmaster for Marc Morey in Chassagne-Montrachet before returning to the family vines in the Jura. The Colline des Dames bottling follows a common thread between the two influences: namely, purist fruit-driven pinot noir, dominant in Burgundy but also a strong tradition Jura. Expect a clean bouquet of peony and crushed berries and a palate of bright pomegranate, cranberrry, and fig notes, gently wreathed with baking spice and pepper. All of the elements add up to a bottle of high-craft elegance with just a kiss of rustic charm.

Practicing organic and biodynamic. 100% pinot noir. Unfined and unfiltered. Zero added sulfites. Non-vintage. Vin de France. La Combe, Rotalier, Arbois, Jura, France.
